Despite a great comeback Grange went down 3-2 to Greaves Clydesdale in the Presidents Cup Final at Forthbank.

Seemingly coasting three goals up early in the second half Gordon Shepherd`s charges pressed the destruct button and finally were left struggling to hold on to their slender lead in a dramatic climax.

Grange did most of the early running but it was the Titwood outfit that took the lead when a Ciaran Crawford penalty corner strike was saved by the keeper and captain for the day Ross MacPherson slotted home the rebound.

Clydesdale went two up at another set piece, this time Crawford`s drag flick was partially stopped by Grange`s Colin Johnstone but the ferocity of the shot took the ball over the goal line.

Grange pressed to get back into the contest and a Yan Adams low shot was saved by Stuart Brown in the Clydesdale goal but Cammie Fraser`s rebound eluded the target.  But the Grange defence contrived to give the ball away to Gordon Munro, he passed the ball to Raymond Wrightson who volleyed home for the third.

However Grange kept pressing hard and slackness in the Clydesdale defence allowed Yan Adams to reduce the deficit to be followed by a penalty corner conversion by CraIg Harper.

It was now Grange`s turn to shoot themselves in the foot when Rob Barr`s spot effort was saved by the combination of Brown and his post.  With five minutes remaining Colin McIver could have sent the tie to penalties but his effort also hit a post and the cup was heading back to Titwood.

But the day was not a total disaster for Grange as they retained their top six place in the Subway national league when Edinburgh University failed to take three points from their encounter with WebEnergy Hillhead in a thrilling 4-4 draw.
